## Before you start

- Owner or admin role in Soosh
- [At least one knowledge source](https://docs.soosh.io/guides/chatbot/add-to-the-knowledge-base/)

## Turn it on

1. Go to [**Settings > Bot settings**](https://app.soosh.io/settings/bot) and choose **AI assistant**.
2. Turn on **Enable AI responses**.
3. Optional: in **System Prompt**, tell the AI how to behave, like *Answer in a
friendly, short way. Reply in the customer's language.*
4. Optional: turn on **Hand over to a person**, and choose who gets the chat
in **Hand over to**: a team, or **Any available agent (general queue)**.
5. Click **Save** in the bar at the bottom.

> **Cost:** AI answers use Soosh AI; there's no AI account or key to set up. See what they
> cost in [**Settings > AI usage**](https://app.soosh.io/settings/ai-usage).

## Result

When no flow or keyword reply answers a message, the AI does, as long as the
chatbot is on (**Automation > Chatbot**, **Turn on bot**).

**Show typing while the AI writes a reply** and **Wait for the customer to
finish writing** fine-tune how it feels to customers: by default the AI waits
3 seconds after the last message, so a customer who sends several short
messages gets one answer.
