# Create a role

> Make a role with exactly the permissions a job needs, like a support lead who can assign chats.

Source: https://docs.soosh.io/guides/workspace/create-a-role/

Soosh has four built-in roles: **Owner**, **Admin**, **Manager** and **Agent**.
You can't change them, but you can create your own next to them.

## Before you start

- Owner or admin role in Soosh

## Create the role

1. Go to [**Settings > Roles & permissions**](https://app.soosh.io/settings/roles) and click **Add role**.
2. In **Name**, enter the job it's for, like *Support lead*.
3. Optional: in **Description**, say what it's for.
4. Under **Permissions**, open each area and tick what the role can do:
**View**, **Create and edit**, **Delete**, and actions such as **Assign** or
**Pick up**. Anything left unticked stays hidden from people with the role.
5. Optional: turn on **Default role for new users** to preselect it when adding
   members.
6. Click **Create**.

You can only tick permissions you have yourself.

## Result

The role is in the list and in the **Role** field when you add or edit a
member. To see what a built-in role can do, click it in the list.
